It’s hard to miss the #GivingTuesday buzz today, but here at SJN we’re crowdsourcing something a little different: your picks for impactful news stories.
Join us in our appreciation for great journalism around social problem solving by “giving” articles which had a significant impact on the way you interact with the news. Could be a story which dramatically changed your views on a social problem, a piece that encouraged you to get involved in an issue, an op-ed which you connected with in a unique way, or simply a piece of journalism which you were grateful for. It doesn’t have to be solutions journalism: we’re curious about your experiences with the news as a whole, in any stories which compelled you to engage with the media a little differently.
Share your stories using the hashtag #GivingNewsDay, and tell us why they were significant for you. We’re interested in your personal experiences with the news media, and we’ll be re-Tweeting our favorite stories around meaningful journalism throughout the day.
If you’re also participating in #GivingTuesday, and want to make a donation to support journalism, here are some of our favorite organizations working to strengthen and expand the news media:
- Center for Investigative Reporting
- International Women’s Media Foundation
- Reporters Without Borders
- Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting
- Center for Public Integrity
We hope you’ll contribute to our first #GivingNewsDay by sharing your story of appreciation for great journalism and joining us in a conversation on why the news matters.
