The Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) is an independent, non-profit organization that works to legitimatize and spread the practice of solutions journalism — compelling reporting about responses to urgent social problems. SJN is building SolutionsU, a set of tools to support the teaching of social innovation, centered around the Solutions Story Tracker: a database of 1,700+ solutions stories around the globe.

SJN’s network of partner organizations nationwide has grown significantly over the past year. We are looking for a high-energy student with a passion for journalism and strong interpersonal skills to regularly follow up with our newsroom partners to collect qualitative and quantitative evidence of solutions journalism impact. The position reports to the Director of Newsroom Practice Change.
This is a paid, part-time internship that will afford the right candidate the unique opportunity to connect directly with newsroom leaders and get firsthand understanding of the evolving dynamics of the media landscape in the United States. The intern is expected to work 10 hours a week during the school year and pays $11/hourly.
The successful intern must possess the following skills:
  • A passion for journalism
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to both follow directions but demonstrate initiative when warranted
  • Attention to detail
