Look Locally for Solutions
There are plenty of opportunities to do solutions journalism in your own community without having to travel. Look around the community and examine how people are responding to problems (remember, a solution doesn’t necessarily have to be successful for a story to be compelling). Get reporters into the habit of asking the basic question, “who is doing it better (or at least trying to)?”
Indeed, solutions can be often hiding just in your backyard. The Philadelphia Reentry Project, a solutions-oriented collaborative working on prisoner reentry issues, found more than 60 relevant local initiatives in Philadelphia alone in its research.
