b future podcast

On the Bonn Institute’s “b future” podcast, Lisa Urlbauer recently hosted a conversation that is delightfully different from many current journalism discussions. Lisa is a former SJN-er, and the institute is a leading constructive journalism organization based in Germany, with solutions reporting a key part of its mission.

A couple weeks ago, they welcomed Manuela Kasper-Claridge, editor-in-chief of Germany’s international public broadcaster Deutsche Welle, and SJN co-founder Tina Rosenberg for a discussion about building constructive approaches, including solutions journalism, in the newsroom. To misquote Paul McCartney, the rumors of journalism’s demise have been slightly exaggerated, and this conversation about “[b]etter user engagement, more public trust [and] happier journalists” covers a lot of the reasons there is cautious-but-palpable optimism in constructive journalism circles. Find a happy space, and give it a listen.
