AI for Impact: Unlocking Insights in Climate Solutions Journalism

2024 Skoll Foundation Awardee Meedan and the Solutions Journalism Network have collaborated to create a first-of-its kind AI tool to identify reporting on credible responses to climate change and insights emerging from them.

This tool addresses a critical need in the field: As climate change occupies more space in both the news cycle and our collective psyche, optimism — grounded, reasonable optimism rooted in knowledge — has become a responsibility. But maintaining it in the face of constant stories of catastrophe can be difficult.

Though initially developed to search for climate solutions journalism, the tool can be trained to focus on other critical issues such as democracy or health.

This interactive educational presentation — designed for journalists, funders, policymakers, researchers and climate communicators — will include the first public demonstration of the tool and an opportunity for participants to offer feedback on how it can be improved for greater impact for poor and vulnerable communities.
