Dean Furbush
Our beloved Board Chair, Dean Furbush, passed away on July 28, 2023. We are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend, colleague and mentor. Dean joined SJN’s board in 2014, in our second year. He was extraordinarily generous with his time. In 9 years, he almost never missed a board meeting, and he made himself available for an endless stream of requests, day and night. He brought extensive experience leading both nonprofit and for-profit companies and played a central role continuously shaping SJN’s culture, systems and strategy. What marked Dean above all was his kindness, enthusiasm and loving spirit. He celebrated life, read poetry at board meetings, listened with genuine delight, and treated everyone he met with profound respect. He will be missed beyond measure. Read more about Dean.
